February Newsletter

Feb 01, 2026

Principal’s Message

It’s hard to believe we are already into February! The past month has been busy and productive, and it has been wonderful to see how focused and engaged our students continue to be in their learning.

Across the school, students are working hard toward our three school goals: strengthening reading and writing skills, developing number sense and mathematical thinking, and building social responsibility and positive behaviour through our RAISE expectations. These goals guide our teaching and daily interactions and help ensure all students feel supported, challenged, and successful.

February also brings many opportunities to build school spirit and connections. We will continue with our school sports, enjoy upcoming spirit days, and focus on kindness and inclusion through Pink Shirt Day.

We will wrap up the month with our Family Fun Carnival, a wonderful opportunity for families to come together, connect, and celebrate our school community. Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to the month ahead.

Tammy Tomm

CPE Principal

Battle of The Books
This annual reading program is open to students in Grades 3–7. Students will read 10 books by March, when they will go head-to-head with AHE and BVE to see who knows the books best. This year, the School District Battle Of the Books will take place on Thursday, March 5th at BVE.
Family Fun Carnival!
The CPE Family Fun Carnival will take place on Friday, February 27, from 5:00–8:00 pm. The evening will include games, prizes, fun activities, and a concession. Thank you to our PAC for organizing the event, and to the Grade 7 families and students for running the concession. All proceeds from the concession will support the Grade 7 year-end trip to Sunnybrae. Please support the carnival by volunteering your time or by contributing a cake for the Musical Cakes game.
School Sports
Basketball
The District Grade 6 & 7 basketball season continues with teacher coaches Ms. Lacroix and Ms. Findlay coaching the girls’ team, and parent volunteer Ms. Flexman coaching the boys’ team. The teams will wrap up the season with a tournament on February 26 at RSS. Come out to watch and cheer on our students!
District Winter Sports Activities
District sports continue into February:

  • Grade 1 Skating (last skate) will be on Tuesday, February 17 10:30-11:45
  • Grade 4 students will be Nordic skiing at Mount MacPherson on  February 3, 10.
  • Grade 6 students will be skiing or snowboarding at Revelstoke Mountain Resort on February 4, 11 and 18.
  • Grade 7 students will be curling on February 11 and 18.

Nordic Ski Afterschool
Our Grade 4–7 students will once again have the opportunity to participate in after-school Nordic skiing at the Mount MacPherson Cross Country Ski Trails. This program is offered in partnership with the Revelstoke Nordic Club with CPE teachers also volunteering their time to support students.

Ski sessions will take place on Mondays: February 2, 9, and 23; and March 2. The bus will leave CPE at 2:30 pm and return to the school at approximately 4:30 pm. Snacks and ski rentals are provided.

Pink Shirt Day
Pink Shirt Day is on Wednesday, February 25. Also known as Anti-Bullying Day, Pink Shirt Day raises awareness about bullying in schools, including in classrooms, on the playground, and online.

The movement began in Nova Scotia when students David Shepherd and Travis Prince chose to wear pink to support a classmate who was bullied for wearing a pink shirt. Their actions as upstanders have grown into a global movement promoting kindness, inclusion, and respect in schools.

At CPE, Pink Shirt Day connects directly to our RAISE expectations—showing Respect, including All, supporting Individuals, taking responsibility for Self, and caring for our Environment.  Have your child wear pink on February 25 to show their support for kindness, empathy, and standing up for others.

Parent/Caregiver Series
Responding to Our Children’s Challenging Behaviours (whether they are 5 or 15 years old!)
with Hilla Shlomi, CYMH

All children “misbehave” at times, and all parents struggle with how to effectively respond to these behaviours. This session will introduce parents to an attachment-based, emotion-focused approach to responding to children’s challenging behaviours.

Where: Begbie View Elementary Library

Time: 6:30-8:00

These sessions are open to all parents, caregivers, school district employees, and community partners who would like to come together to learn.

POPS and PALS
PALS (Parents as Literacy Supporters) and POPS (Parents of Primary Students)

This is a morning of fun and learning for you and your Kindergarten or Grade 1 child. The program brings together parents, students, and primary teachers so everyone can be actively involved in learning together. You will also go home with practical tips and ideas to help support your child’s learning at home.

PALS – Kindergarten (both classes) February 6th from 8:30-10:00 am

POPS – Grade 1 students  April 14 from 8:30-10:00 am

Kindergarten Registration
Do you have a child born in 2021? It’s time to register for Kindergarten in Revelstoke!

We are excited to welcome parents, guardians, and caregivers to register children born in 2021—who will be turning five years old in 2026 for Kindergarten starting this September. Revelstoke School District aims to ensure that staffing and resources are in place at our neighbourhood schools to support all incoming Kindergarten students.

Registering new Kindergarten students early helps us prepare for our newest young learners!
