Principal’s Message

March brings us an opportunity to reflect on the accomplishments of this school year and look forward to more engaging opportunities for learning, growth and fun! Last week, we celebrated Pink Shirt Day, emphasizing kindness and inclusion. Our Grade 4 students shared their heartfelt poems during assembly, and we ended the day off with a shared buddy activity.

The teachers have been creating engaging learning experiences for their students, who, in turn, have been equally dedicated to their learning both in and outside the classroom.  As we come close to the end of the second term, it is important for families to check in with their child and their progress. Second term learning updates will be sent home on March 13th.  Take the time to review these updates with your child and discuss their strengths and areas for growth.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact their teacher before the break.

We have many exciting events planned for this month, including winter sports day, spirit day, Battle of the Books and a free hot lunch! Spring Break is not far away which begins on March 16th, with our return to school on April 2nd. Enjoy this time to relax, unwind and spend time together.

Thank you for all your continued support of our school and our students, CPE is a remarkable community of learners.

Tammy Tomm
Principal, CPE

Communicating Student Learning

The second Learning Update will be coming home on March 13th. If you have any questions about your child’s progress please reach out to your child’s teacher. Student -led conferences are an opportunity for students to take an active role in leading the discussion about their learning progress, reflecting on their work and setting goals. It’s a chance for families to visit the classroom, see what their child has been learning, and engage in these discussions. Please note that on these conference days April 17th & 18th we’ll have early dismissal at 12:30 pm.

CPE PAC

If you are interested in joining the Parent Advisory Council(PAC), every parent or guardian of a CPE student can be a part of the PAC. The PAC meets monthly, on the second Tuesday of each month, at 6:30 in the CPE Library. The next meetings are March 12th and April 9th.

Parent and Student Survey

In March/April the BC Student Learning Survey will be administered to students in grades 4 and 7, and their parents/guardians/caregivers. We encourage parents/guardians/caregivers to participate in this survey, as the results are important in identifying and celebrating current strengths, as well as determining where the school needs to focus improvement. The parent surveys contain standard questions for the Province – in addition, questions from the school and/or district that focus on local conditions or issues may be included. The parent survey can be completed electronically and can be accessed on the Internet at http://www.bced.gov.bc.ca/sat_survey. Thanks, parents, for jumping online to complete this survey.
