R.A.I.S.E. “Respect all individuals, self and the environment”

Dear CPE Families

May has arrived, and our school grounds are undergoing a magical transformation! Our playground is buzzing with activity, as students build with rocks and sticks, enjoy playing wall ball, basketball, soccer, and the much loved 9-square.  We are busy at CPE planning outdoor adventures and field trips, growing butterflies, raising ducks and planting flowers.  We are looking forward to grade 7 students going golfing and to Sunnybrae later in the month.  Additionally, students are learning and training for the track and field events for Sports day and grade 6/7 students signed up for the ShredHERS and ShredCOED mountain biking progam.   Amidst all this excitement, teachers are dedicated to delivering engaging lessons and school projects as we enter the final two months of the academic year.

Please continue reading about all the other great things happening at CPE!

Classes Next Year:

At this time of year schools begin to draft class lists for the upcoming school year. Although student placements cannot be finalized until the first week of the new school year, this process allows us to plan for the best possible placements for all of our students. In our configuration, multi-aged or combined classes will exist. This practice is well supported by research, and it also accommodates the number of children in each grade.

Following is a list of criteria we consider when making student placements.
• the child’s physical and social maturity
• the child’s intellectual development level and age
• gender balance in each class
• the child’s interactions with other students
• parent information, requests
• student friendships
• student support services and the composition of the class
• the teaching style of the teacher and the learning style of the student

Although we do not consider requests for a specific teacher, parents are welcome to provide us with information relating to the above factors. Parents/guardians requesting special consideration are to discuss their child’s educational circumstances with the Principal.  As always, we may need to adjust classes through the first week of September when we determine how many students have arrived in Revelstoke or moved away during the summer break. For this reason, we do not publish class lists prior to the first day of school. If you have further questions, please contact Tammy Tomm at the school.

If you are planning on moving or know of someone who will be moving into our school area, please let us know.  This information will certainly help us to determine our class organization for next year.
