October Newsletter

Oct 02, 2025
Dear CPE Students and Families,

We’ve had a wonderful start to the new school year! We hope your child is settling into their classroom routines, building a welcoming sense of community, and forming new friendships with their classmates.

Our Goal Setting Conferences will be held on October 22 & 23, with early dismissal at 12:30pm on both days. This schedule allows time for teachers to meet with students and their families during the afternoon. These individual conferences are an important opportunity for teachers to hear about your child’s learning strengths and needs, and to work together in setting goals for the school year ahead.

Please read on for more information about what is coming up at CPE.

Thank you for your continued support in helping your child come to school each day ready to learn —it truly makes a difference!

Terry Fox Run

We were fortunate to have a beautiful, sunny day on September 25 for our annual Terry Fox Run. Thank you to the parents who volunteered along the route to help students navigate the course. Through our Toonies for Terry fundraising, we raised $400 for cancer research. A big thank-you to our families for supporting this important cause!

Photo Retake Day October 20

If your child missed photo day this year, or if you are not satisfied with the photos taken, please let their teacher know that you would like retakes. Mountain West Studios is also hoping for feedback, so please share your thoughts on the photo quality, ease of ordering, and overall experience.

Goal Setting Conferences

On October 22nd and 23rd, students will be dismissed at 12:30 to allow teachers time to meet with students and parents/guardians to discuss goals for the year ahead. Some meetings may be scheduled for a different day or in the evening to ensure all families are accommodated.  If you are unable to attend the time provided, please email your child’s teacher to arrange an alternate time to connect or leave a message for them at the school 250-837-4744.  The purpose of these conferences is to have a shared conversation about your child’s learning, to include the student in the process, and to set goals together based on their strengths and how they learn best.

Cross Country Running

The cross-country running team is off to a great start! Students are having fun running together every Tuesday after school and recently participated in their first meet at the Arrow Heights Grizzly Grind on September 25th.  The next meet will take place at BVE on Thursday, October 2. Following that, we will host the annual Turkey Trot at CPE on October 9. If you are available to volunteer between 3:00 and 3:45 pm, your help would be greatly appreciated! The season will wrap up on October 16 with a run in the National Park, hosted by École des Glaciers. A big thank you to coaches Ms. Hill, Ms. Kramer, and Ms. Findlay for their time and dedication to supporting our runners!

Scholastic Book Fair

The annual Scholastic Book Fair, that provides a variety of high quality books for every interest, reading level and price range will be taking place this year on October 22 & 23. This fair enables our library to purchase new books for students.  We hope you will continue to support this important community event and join us in the celebration of books and reading once again this year.  Our students and community benefit greatly from this annual event. Book Fair times and volunteer forms will be sent home soon!

Halloween

This year, Halloween falls on a Friday! We will begin the day with our regular Friday assembly, followed by a Halloween costume parade in the gym at approximately 9:00 am. In the afternoon, the CPE Leadership Team will be hosting a fun school-wide dance for all students in the afternoon.

Costume and Treat Guidelines:

  • Halloween masks may be worn only during the costume parade.
  • Swords or staffs that are part of a costume may be brought, but can only be carried during the parade.
  • No toy guns as part of your costume please.
  • Remember we are a K–7 school—nothing overly gory.
  • Halloween candy should stay at home, as it is not good brain food for learning.

We are excited to see everyone’s costumes and to celebrate together. Thank you for your cooperation in helping make Halloween a safe and enjoyable event for all!
