Superintendent’s Winter Message to School District #19 (Revelstoke) Families
Greetings!
As we approach the winter break, it is with great reflection and gratitude that I extend warm holiday wishes to our school families. This time of year holds a special charm, providing us with an opportunity to rest, rejuvenate and celebrate with family for all that we are grateful for in our communities, both local and global.
In our interconnected communities, spanning our region, province, and the broader global society, it is important to cultivate a sense of gratitude. It can serve as a compass to help us find balance amidst the challenges and impacts that events in our province and world may present. We are fortunate to live in Revelstoke, a community that is strong and supportive of one another. Together as a community we create a place of belonging where adults and students can thrive and where everyone can see themselves as champions for the human spirit and human rights. Together we create a place of unity.
At SD 19, our mission is to ignite passion and joy for learning, with a vision for our school community to actively engage in the pursuit of knowledge. This focus is centered on each individual developing to their full potential, contributing to the overall well-being of all. As a collective, we are succeeding in this endeavor, and for that, I am truly grateful.
This week, the BC Adolescent Health Survey: Youth Health in Revelstoke results came in. Students in grade 7 to 12 shared valuable insights on what contributes to their health and well–being. Take a moment to explore the list, as supporting these activities contributes not only to their education but also their ability to make a positive impact on the world around them.
The key factors include:
- Participates in regular physical activity
- Access to nutritious health meals
- Gets at least 8 hours of sleep
- Has supportive adults in their family, school or community
- Feels connected to culture
- Feels connected to school and community
- Has supportive friends
- Access service they feel they need
Let us celebrate the collaborative efforts that shape our schools and community.
I invite you to explore the picture gallery highlighting the unity that creates a sense of belonging, a passion for learning, and the recognition of each student’s unique gifts, all of which contribute to the well-being of all.
May this holiday season be filled with joy, connection, and the spirit of giving.
Thank you for being an essential part of our wonderful school community.
