December 2023 CPE Newsletter

Dec 01, 2023

Principal’s Message:
By now most of you have heard that Mrs. Tammy Tomm will take on the role of temporary, Acting Principal at CPE while I spend some time at Revelstoke Secondary School. Mrs. Tomm is presently teaching at Begbie View Elementary school, but she is very familiar with the students, the parents, and the culture of our school. Mrs. Tomm was a teacher here for ten years, she knows many of the children, and often took on the principal role when I was absent. Mrs. Tomm will spend some time with me during a transition period in early December; in fact, some of you have already seen her in the hallways and out on the school grounds. Welcome Mrs. Tomm!

Mr. Pfeiffer
Principal

SD19 Indigenous Education focus for December

Tanshi, this December we are grateful for Arts Revelstoke and the Art Galleries installations that provide our community with so many opportunities to interact with progressive, socially-conscious art. This month many classes are touring the Art Galleries with featured stops to highlight the works of Ric Gendron’s – Coming Home, Delrée Demonts – The Matriarch Origin of the Jingle Dance, and Zuzana Rhias – Flight of Light Raven Steals the Light. Each of these works explores a facet of Indigenous histories, cultures and stories.

Student Surveys

In the coming months there are two important, province-wide surveys that some students will be completing at CPE. Results of these surveys are used to help guide our school forward by identifying areas of strength and illuminating areas that we need to work on and develop. The first survey is the Middle Years Development Index (MDI) which is a survey that students in grades 5 will complete in January or February. Students are asked survey questions that focus on their overall well-being and include questions about their eating habits, screen time, and extra-curricular activities. The second survey is called the Student Learning Survey. This survey will be administered later in the spring to students in grade 4 and grade 7 is also done province wide. There is even a parent and school staff section of the Student Learning Survey, and it affords the opportunity for all stakeholders to give their input on the strengths of CPE and where our school can improve. Thanks so much for supporting these surveys in the coming months.
