April Newsletter

Mar 29, 2026
Principal’s Message
It’s hard to believe we are already heading into April! I hope everyone had a wonderful spring break and had time to relax, spend time with family, and recharge.

We have lots of exciting events happening this month, including the CPE Math Fair on April 15, Earth Day activities, the start of Track and Field Club, and Smashball already underway.  As a school, we continue to make steady progress toward our goals, with a focus on strengthening literacy and numeracy while building a positive school community through our RAISE focus.

Our second Written Learning Updates were recently sent home, providing a snapshot of your child’s learning at that point in time with a focus on their progress. They are one of several ways we communicate learning, alongside class newsletters, emails, and ongoing conversations.  April also brings Student-Led Conferences on April 29 and 30. These conferences are a great opportunity for students to share their learning, reflect on their progress, and revisit their goals with their families. We look forward to welcoming you into the school.

Thank you for your continued support in making CPE such a great place to learn!

Tammy Tomm

Principal, CPE

Volunteer Requests – Save The Dates
We appreciate the support of our CPE volunteers, these events wouldn’t be possible without you! If you’re available, we’d love your help at the following:

CPE Sports Day – May 21
A variety of helpers are needed for both Primary and Intermediate events.  Please watch for a volunteer form sent home with your child near the end of April.

Intermediate District Field Events at CPE – June 4
Volunteers are needed to assist with field events throughout the day.  Please watch for volunteer forms sent home with your child in early May.

CPE Math Fair – April 15
CPE is excited to host our first annual Math Fair on April 15.  Students will participate in the math fair during the day and from 3:30–6:00 pm, we invite families to come and participate alongside their child!

The Math Fair is a fun, hands-on event where students and families explore engaging math puzzles and games together. The activities are designed to be accessible for all learners, encouraging problem solving, creativity, and perseverance. It’s a great way to experience math in a joyful, low-pressure environment.

We hope you can join us for this exciting community event!

Student-Led Conferences
This is a reminder that students will be dismissed early at 12:30 p.m. on April 29 and 30 for Student-Led Conferences.

During the conference, your child will take the lead in sharing their learning, including recent projects, evidence of growth, and next steps. This is a valuable opportunity for students to reflect on their progress. The teacher will also be available to meet with you and your child to discuss your child’s learning and answer any questions you may have.

Your child’s teacher will be in contact to schedule a conference time. To ensure we can meet with all families, there will be one conference per student, and we are not able to schedule multiple appointments for the same student.

CPE PAC
The next PAC meeting will be Tuesday, April 14 at 6:30 pm in the CPE Library. Free childcare is available, and everyone is welcome!

The CPE PAC supports school events, funds resources and equipment, and helps provide the “extras” that make school more engaging for students.

Thank you to our PAC and the Yearbook Committee for their ongoing work on the 2025–2026 yearbook, which will be provided free to all CPE students at the end of June.

Battle of the Books
Congratulations to all students in Grades 3–7 who participated in Battle of the Books this year! The District event was held at BVE, and some students will go on to compete at the regional competition in Vernon on April 8.

Battle of the Books is organized by our Elementary Teacher -Librarians, and we appreciate the time and dedication they put into making this opportunity possible.

Parent/Caregiver Series
Our final speaker in the series is Vanessa LaPointe on April, 28th at the RPAC Theatre.

All practices and games will take place at the RSS gym. Columbia Park students will take the bus to RSS.

Additional practices at school will take place on Wednesdays afterschool for Grade 7 students and Thursday afterschools for Grade 6 students.

Track and Field Club

Track and Field Club will run for Grades 4–7 on Mondays from April 13 to June 1 from 2:30-3:30 at CPE. Please watch for a permission form coming home with your child.

Thank you to Ms. Lenzi, Ms. Pica, and Ms. Findlay for organizing and running this extracurricular opportunity!

Vect competition.

Swimming for Grades 2 & 5

As part of the District’s grade-specific sports explorations, students in Grades 2 and 5 will visit the Recreation Centre pool for a series of swimming lessons, along with some time to enjoy the facility.

Swimming sessions will take place on May 6, 13, and 20. Permission forms will be sent home later this month.

These sports explorations give students the opportunity to try a variety of activities and help promote a lifelong interest in being active.

Bike and Scooter Safety Reminder
With spring weather approaching, more students are riding bikes and scooters to and from CPE. It’s important that students ride safely and responsibly, showing awareness and respect for others.

To help keep everyone safe, please review the following expectations with your child:

Please have students walk their bikes and scooters once they arrive on school grounds
Students should dismount at the sidewalk and walk their bike and scooter onto school property
Helmets are required for all riders for safety
Bikes and scooters should be locked in the designated bike racks
We appreciate families reinforcing safe and respectful riding habits both on the way to school and in the community.
